Finding your WHY
How many of you have read different books, watched videos or listened to audio books for professional development or self-help? I know I have and they all say pretty much the same thing…. TAKE ACTION. Of course, they say a little bit more than that, but essentially, they all allude to that one piece of advice.
So how do you TAKE ACTION? Simple you do what Nike says and just do it. On a more serious note though, I think that before you can take action you need to truly know what it is you want from life. What gets you out of bed in the morning (other than the alarm clock) or more importantly what would you really like to be doing if money wasn’t an issue?. Most people get out of bed because they have to go and work so they can pay the bills.
All the same, it gets you out of bed, the alternative is fear of not paying the bills. For me, I use to get out of bed for exactly that reason, ALARM clock, work to pay bills etc.
Although I am still doing that my purpose is slightly different now. I am getting out of bed because my three year old tells me too?? Seriously though, I am still getting up to pay the bills because it is not possible to not have bills but I am choosing to get up for a whole other reason, to build a life that is working when I want and around a life, I am completely satisfied with. I am TAKING ACTION to ensure that happens. Don’t get me wrong it’s not easy at the start because I am having to get up early to make my dream happen (which is what I put this photo up, it’s of me early in the morning in a Canadian Ski field pre-child, getting ready to snowboard for the day).
The picture above is a reminder to me that we get up early (or make sacrifices) to do the things we love/want to do even if it is difficult. I have never been a morning person but I find myself making the time when I can to get up and get a start while my daughter is still asleep. Obviously, this is not for everyone but it just proves a point that we will all TAKE ACTION if our WHY is strong enough.
Imagine getting out of bed at whatever time you wanted because you were excited and passionate about what you were about to go and do. That’s where you start! I use to ask my staff when I first introduced goal setting to them if money wasn’t an issue what would you do? That was a great way to see what motivates a person. It dares them to dream, it dares them to imagine another life. I use to ask myself the same question and it was always to be a professional athlete. If you asked me today that same question it would be totally different. Finding your why needs to be strong enough to keep you going through the hardest of times. It can change…like in my previous blog…I went to bed career and woke up lifestyle.
My why is about my family, I want to retire my mother, be around for my daughter and not work the standard 9 to 5. I want to be financially comfortable and afford to live where I want. I want to lead an extraordinary life and I want my daughter to learn that she can achieve anything with he right mindset.
Once you have an idea on your why then you need to then put a plan in place to achieve. Setting goals are a whole other discussion, which I will cover in another blog. Finding a way to make your plan come alive is paramount. I have been very fortunate to find a number of home businesses and fantastic training platform that is providing me with the tools to ensure my WHY comes to fruition. Although at the end of the day I am the only one that is responsible for taking the action needed for that to occur.
